Finding Oakton

Oakton is located in Fairfax County, about 10 square miles in size. To the south, it is bordered by the city of Fairfax, to the west by Oak Hill, to the east by Vienna and is bound to the south by I-66. Traveling from Oakton to the surrounding areas is made easy by the close proximity of I-66 and VA-123.

Suburban Paradise

Most of the homes in Oakton are single-family houses. Though many of the houses are in a higher price range, there are some moderately priced options. Condos are scarce in Oakton, though there are a few buildings here and there.

Fun For Everyone, Even Furry Friends

In Oakton, there is plenty of open green space for residents and their four legged friends to enjoy. Blake Lane Dog Park is a popular destination for the community dog-owners, providing a nice, big, grassy area for canines to roam free and play off the leash. For people looking for a physical challenge, Difficult Run Stream Valley Park is nearby. The park has many shady trails that follow creeks that eventually lead to the Reston and Potomac Rivers. In this park, residents have miles and miles to enjoy woods and wildlife. Contrary to what the name implies, though, there are more moderate paths for people who aren’t looking for a vigorous workout. After spending the day getting lost in nature, park visitors can refresh themselves at one of the many nearby restaurants.

Oakton is also a quick drive away from other parks in neighboring towns. Residents often hop in the car for a trip to Van Dyck Park, Daniels Run, or many of the other parks located in Fairfax.

Let’s Get Physical

Another Oakton highlight is the Oak Marr RECenter, located on Jermantown Road. The center has recently undergone a complete transformation that has added 10,000 square feet. This two-story fitness center is outfitted with all new exercise equipment, including treadmills with personal television screens. Other amenities include hardwood studios for fitness classes, a new spin studio and a supervised babysitting area. Visitors can also take advantage of the two racquetball courts and the heated Olympic-size pool with a spa, beach and wading area and a diving complex.  After working out, people can cool off in the showers and relax in the saunas.

Eat Your Way Through Town

Oakton is also home to many different restaurants, giving residents a wide array of dining options. Located on Chain Bridge Road, Yoko Japanese Restaurant is the place to go for delicious sushi. Though it is a bit pricier, it is well worth the extra money. Yoko’s serves high quality fresh food in generous portion sizes. The menu is huge, with many specialty rolls. Favorites include the nemo roll, which melts on the tongue, or the simple yet wonderful chirashi bowl.

For more Asian fare, check out Old Peking Restaurant. Serving classic American Chinese food, Old Peking’s quality is superior, not too heavy or greasy like other Chinese restaurants tend to be. People regularly order the kung pao chicken and shrimp, the beef lo mein, and the General Hunan chicken. The restaurant’s interior has dim lighting to set the mood and a cozy atmosphere. The only downside is that they don’t do delivery.

Santini’s New York Deli is a community staple. Much more than your typical sandwich shop, Santini’s serves satisfying subs such as the Godfather, which is packed with tasty sliced Italian meats. Regular customers also swear the calzones are heavly, and you can’t go wrong with ordering a classic thick crust New York pizza. Order at the counter and your food will come out quickly, hot and fresh. Santini’s is a hot spot during lunch hour, a great option for take-out.

For outstanding Middle Eastern food, residents come to Tigris Middle Eastern Grill. Its authentic Iraqi dishes set it apart from most of the other Middle Eastern places in the area, offering numerous lunch specials for less than ten dollars. Favorites include the grilled salmon, chicken tikki and beef kabob platter. The falafel is flavorful with deliciously blended spices and texture, made perfect with your choice of dipping sauces.
